Training should not just be ‘deliver and forget’

It can often be a challenge to get workshop participants to put their learning into action.

A 24X7 Learning survey revealed that only 12% of learners say they apply the skills from the training they receive. (report by 24x7 Learning: "Workplace Learning - 2015". September 2015). While there are many components to designing good training that translates into action, one of the biggest issues is what is known as the ‘forgetting curve’. This research, that has been repeated many times, shows that students forget up to 40% of the information they receive within 20 minutes and 64% after just 9 hours. Fortunately there are things that trainers can do to combat this. Engaging content that uses relevant examples for the learner or group can help connect new information to past experiences. This is important, as one out of every three learners say that uninspiring content is a barrier to their learning (Embracing change/towards maturity 2015-2016 industry benchmark report). The reinforcement of key learning objectives post training also helps learners retain more information and combat the ‘forgetting curve’. That’s why we provide your workshop participants access to post course review materials and resources online, so they can get started right away.

“Without being able to review the material my retention from the workshop was 30% - With access to view the training again, I retained around 90% which helped me put more into practice”

- Blended learning (workshop and online eCourse recap) student survey

Your trainers have experience in delivering practical, actionable training for State and Local Government departments and community organisations across metropolitan and regional Australia.

With engaging content, reinforcement of key messages and practical goals for participants, your community organisations will be motivated to put plans into action for long term change and increased community impact.
