Volunteer Induction eCourse

48% of organisations in the sector don’t undertake volunteer inductions* stating the lack of resources in time, funds and expertise are a huge barrier.

Not having an induction can present massive issues for volunteers and organisations who accept volunteers.

It’s not just a safety issue, it can also lead to a poor volunteering experience when volunteers aren’t aware of foundational information that they need to know and ask for, to maximise their volunteering commitment.

Those organisations who do undertake volunteer inductions spend an average of 7 ½ hours undertaking the induction program!

This volunteer induction eCourse provides a foundational induction program for those not undertaking volunteer inductions; and also compliments existing site orientation induction programs.

The induction eCourse is suitable for first time volunteers and as a refresher for existing volunteers.

Hi, I’m Natalie Bramble I’m a community sector educator and consultant and I’ve trained over 8,700 people across Australia, helping them improve their organisations.

Together with Karen Saunders and Glen Dunkley who also have experience as a volunteer; and a volunteer inductor; we’ve created this critical volunteer induction program.

Here are some comments made by not-for-profit staff and volunteers sharing why they love this eCourse:

“It’s cost effective. Can be done in volunteers own time – it doesn’t impact the workload of existing employees to assist induction. Time to plan training is another high cost.”

“Having access to online training brings industry experts to our organisations where otherwise they would never be available for small communities.”

“Providing training opportunities online doesn't limit small or remote communities.”

In this FREE Volunteer Induction eCourse new and existing volunteers will explore:

  • The purpose of inductions and site orientations
  • Volunteer checks and clearances
  • Personal information including attendance; dress code; grievances; media and social media; non-discrimination and resignation.
  • Governance information including confidentiality; non-disclosure; privacy; conflicts of interest and ethics.
  • Health and safety information including emergency volunteers; child protection; risk management; bullying and harassment; dealing with difficult customers; manual handling; first aid; safety assessments and incident reporting.

Even better is the competency quizzes that when successfully completed, demonstrates volunteers knowledge in these key foundational areas and awards volunteers with a certificate of competency!

And because it’s competency based, this means if you are providing it as a complimentary eCourse to your existing program, you are assured that your volunteers are aware of the critical foundational areas required for a volunteer.

This eCourse saves you hundreds of dollars for face-to-face training or webinar training just to cover these foundational topics!

For those new to volunteering, we also recommend you complete the accompanying Volunteering 101 eCourse

You can connect with other students and we’ll be supporting you during the eCourse if you have any questions!

If you are seeking a customised induction program or would like to suggest additional topics be covered in this free program contact us by phone or send us an email via our CONTACT US page

Why is it free? Are there hidden charges?

This course is completely free, supporting Australia’s 5.8 million volunteers and 600,000 not-for-profit organisations. There are no additional fees or charges.  If you found the eCourse valuable, you can choose to donate to Community Courses Online. As a not-for-profit organisation ourselves, we use all donations to create more free courses for the sector!

Will I get a certificate?

Yes, you certainly will.  This eCourse includes a certificate of competency when you successfully answer all quizzes.

What can I do with the certificate?

You can show this certificate to the organisation you want to volunteer for.  This certificate demonstrates that you have a competent level of knowledge about all topics contained in the curriculum. The volunteer organisation can view the complete course curriculum to obtain a transcript.

What does a certificate of competency mean?

A certificate of competency demonstrates that you have a suitable level of knowledge in the topic areas covered within the eCourse.  As it’s based on successfully passing tests, this demonstrates foundational knowledge.

Why are there tests in the course?

Tests are designed to test your knowledge on the eCourse topic areas.  In order to achieve the certificate of Competency you must achieve a minimum pass mark of 70%.  Don’t worry, you can try the tests as often as you need to.

Can I have a customised induction course?

You certainly can. We offer an eLearning development service for the sector. You can either build on this existing course or we can work with you to develop a completely new course just for your organisation.  Give us a call on 02 6884 4654 or email us via our contact page.

How often is this course updated?

We will add to the course as needed, and review the course formally every three years, unless there are changes to legislation that require an earlier review.

I’d like to add other topics or suggest changes

That’s great, we’d love to hear from you. Give us a call on 02 6884 4654 or email us via our contact page.
